London, 23 June 2022: Signol, a software company cutting fuel waste with behavioural science, has won Small Business of the Year at the 12th annual BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2022, the UK's largest and most prestigious green business awards.

Taking home the gold in a highly competitive category, judges were impressed by Signol’s proven carbon savings, innovative software, and ambitious plans to unlock emissions and cost savings across fuel-intensive industries globally.

The Signol platform uses data analysis to tackle operational inefficiency on a highly personalised basis, with the software currently in use with enormous success in both aviation and maritime.

Pilots and captains are provided with individual feedback, targets, and incentives to reduce pollution and fuel waste based on their own specific behaviours, from the number of engines used whilst taxiing to their choices on speed and altitude. The compound emissions reduction of these small behaviour changes are significant and have been proven to cut both emissions and costs for businesses - an important incentive in driving the industry toward a greener future.

In the past couple of years, leaders in the aviation and maritime industry have become increasingly interested in harnessing the power of behavioural change to lower their emissions above and beyond what’s possible with current technology.

Signol is working with a number of forward-thinking companies in both sectors and more partnerships are scheduled to begin later this year.

Gavin Laidlaw, Signol COO, said: “It is so encouraging to see our novel approach recognised with a BusinessGreen Leaders Award for its huge potential to reduce carbon and cost at pace. Signol’s deceptively simple and human-centric approach to decarbonising hard-to-abate industries such as aviation and shipping really does work, and the influence operators have on carbon-intensive decisions is too often overlooked. Signol’s unique blend of behavioural and data science really can help save the planet, one journey at a time.”

Gavin Laidlaw, CCO and Michael Linn, Key Global Account Manager at Signol on stage, picking up the trophy.

BusinessGreen Leaders Award judge commented: “In one of our most competitive categories to date, Signol impressed the judges with the proven carbon savings delivered by its innovative behaviour change software and its ambitious plans to help unlock emissions and cost savings across multiple sectors. Congratulations to Signol!”
